TCI Faculty of Tourism Unud Takes Part in the G20 Summit
Letternews.net — The G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, which will be held on 15-16 November 2022, is a valuable opportunity for Udayana University (Unud), especially the Tourism Confucius Institute (TCI), Faculty of Tourism.
The first moment, 40 students from the Faculty of Tourism of Udayana University also welcomed the President of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Xi Jinping when he landed at Ngurah Rai Airport (14/11).
The second valuable moment, Unud students also took part in the Spousal Activity of the First Lady of the Republic of Indonesia Iriana Joko Widodo with the First Lady of China Peng Liuyan, Wednesday (16/11), in Nusa Dua, Badung.
"When His Excellency President Xi arrived, 40 of our students greeted him in Indonesian attire. The enthusiasm was extraordinary," said Dr. Drs. Made Sendra, M.Sc., Director of TCI, Faculty of Tourism, Udayana University, in Denpasar, Friday (18/11).
Sendra said, in the Spousal Activity between the two first ladies, the students presented a choir from the students of the Hospitality Management study program.
Under the guidance of the TCI structure, the preparation of the choir for the G20 Presidency took one month.
Interestingly, still according to Sendra, at the peak of the G20 Presidency at The Apurva Kempinski, students from the Faculty of Tourism of Udayana University presented a choir with the song Meili de Suo Luo He, which means Bengawan Solo accompanied by sasando (East Nusa Tenggara's traditional musical instrument).
“Our students sang live in front of Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo and Madame Peng Liyuan. The two first ladies seemed to really enjoy vocals and music," he admitted.
The two first ladies, continued Sendra, appreciated the use of Balinese traditional clothing by the choir group. Not only enjoying the choir, Madame Peng Liyuan also communicated briefly with the students and encouraged them to continue working hard to learn Mandarin.
He welcomes more young people from Indonesia to visit China, learn Chinese culture, and become ambassadors for China-Indonesia cooperation. The student members of the choir also had the opportunity to take pictures with Madame Peng Liyuan and Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo," he explained.
After the G20 presidency, Sendra hoped that the policies of the Bamboo Curtain countries would be softened by allowing their citizens to travel abroad, especially Bali.
Because, according to Sendra, China or China is a big market for Bali tourism. This can be seen from the data of foreign tourist visits to Bali.
“Apart from that, Bali and China have very strong historical values ??and cultural acculturation. We hope that the tourism policy will change,” he hoped. (LN/HUM)
