Studying While Traveling, Students of IPW FPAR Unud Study Guide Practice Tours at 3 DTW

Bachelor Of Tourism In Tourism Industry Management, Faculty of Tourism, Unud, again held a Tour Guide Practice after being delayed for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This activity was carried out at three popular Tourist Attractions (DTW), namely Goa Gajah DTW, Tirta Empul Temple DTW, and Gunung Kawi DTW, Saturday (21/5/2022).
This activity was attended by students of the 2019 and 2020 batches of the IPW Study Program. Coordinator of the IPW Study Program, Dr. I Nyoman Sudiarta, S.E., M.Par. also attended this activity with the Coordinator of the Tour Guide Engineering Course, I Gusti Putu Bagus Sasrawan Mananda, S.ST.Par., M.Par., along with a number of lecturers in the IPW Study Program. Mananda explained the purpose of implementing this activity as a form of application of theory in class to actual situations in the field.
“This activity is held in addition to fulfilling the Tourism Guiding Engineering course, as well as giving students the opportunity to implement the theory they learn in class with the reality at the destination. We hope that students gain new knowledge and have competence in explaining a tourist destination,” said Mananda.
The series of activities include guiding practices by students on the bus and at each designated DTW. The first visit was DTW Goa Gajah, then continued to DTW Tirta Empul, and ended at DTW Gunung Kawi. The selection of these three places was also based on special considerations.
“These three places were chosen as a place to carry out the practice because of the tendency of millennials and children today, not knowing this kind of culture (heritage). They tend to the beach or famous places. So, this place was chosen to be able to raise the name of a tourist attraction that has been around for a long time and at the same time maintain its sustainability,” explained Mananda. The participants seemed enthusiastic to take part in this activity. (ub/unud.ac.id)
